Interrupting the usual programming here with a one-off special release: a live recording from 2016 of an African American spiritual called Soon I Will Be Done, performed in All Soul’s Church, St Margarets when I was six months pregnant with our son, Asher.
I became familiar with the song by way of Mahalia Jackson, and it was one of several covers I worked up which became a catalyst for investigating this soulful universe of deep feeling, electric guitar, and faith. Others on the set list included Sinner Man, Run Mourner Run, Down By the Riverside, and Nobody Knows.
